The tensile test is one of the most important tests for determining mechanical properties of all kinds of solids. The tensile test involves stretching and breaking a test specimen under highly controlled conditions. The most interesting part of the test occurs in the last few moments when the material is highly ductile and is significantly deformed. The region of severe deformation happens in a small volume - about a cubic centimeter, and is difficult to observe.

This module features high-resolution video and a user-controlled animation of the tensile test. The module allows you to observe aspects of the failure which are usually not apparent in an actual laboratory setting, and to repeat various tests.
